Rob’s day off
I’ve got a lot to report, new bike, saw the new Wallace and Grommit film, made a Late Harvest Tomato soup that was great, but Rob is home, so I’m going to bed instead.

The Portland Spirit managers give out service stars to employees who have done good work. So, I was awarded one, along with two tickets to Regal Cinemas. Delightful thought, alas, I can not take Rob to Regal without making the poor boy suffer. The commercials, the radio, the screen aspect ratio… Oh the awful tyranny
Rob came home last night, unexpectedly, which was delightful. I say it was unexpected, but he did give me an hour of notice so I had a chance to make sure there weren’t any dishes in the sink. Harvest is definitely in full swing, although the rains are giving them trouble. We’re hoping I’ll be
I’ve been having some trouble with my computer for the past week. Basically, I got hit with a host of spyware and trojans that took forever to get off my machine. It meant that going online was a slow process if I could get on at all. Sure, the computer was connected, but it was

Rob is making another step in his efforts to sell the wine that he has made. This has been on our front window for the past two weeks and we get to take it down today. Hurrah.
I think I might have neglected to mention that Harvest preperation has begun, so Rob has been away at the winery since Monday. He came home tonight around 8:30 and will be gone again by 5:30 tomorrow morning. I’ve missed him.
I worked double-shifts on Saturday and Sunday. This seems to be the way my weekends work now. All told, I biked forty-eight miles this weekend. So after my last shift I took a hot bath and went to bed. Rob made a nice, very light dinner from Farmer’s market produce. He tried to replicate a

I went down to Westry Winery with Rob to help with the bottling line. This was my first time working on an assembly line and boy, it was as dull as one might expect. My job was to put the capsules on the top of the bottle. This is the piece of foil that goes
I can’t believe it. Strange Horizons just wrote to say they want to buy Portrait of Ari at pro-rates! I’m beside myself with excitement–really, it takes two of me to express my joy fully. Here’s the letter. Dear Mary Robinette Kowal, We’re pleased to accept your story “Portrait of Ari” for publication in Strange Horizons,
I didn’t have to be on the boat until late afternoon, so I spent the morning singing and trying to sound like I was a two-year old fairy. Thankfully, Rob was out of the house otherwise I think the cuteness factor might have sent him over the edge.
I’ve been working for the Portland Spirit every day this week. Some days, I’ve had two shifts. It’s the busy season. Fortunately, our garden is doing well so Rob and I don’t have to shop for groceries. We can just run outside to pick some vegetables. Here you see a variety of heirloom tomatoes, a
For reasons I didn’t have time to investigate, my bike started making a tic, tic, tic sound on the way to work today. So I would up having to take the bus down. It was an easy ride, but I was fairly stressed by the time I arrived because I was late. Fortunately, the cruise
Rob has an audio gig for the next couple of days and between that and my shifts on the boat we’re only seeing each other on the way to bed. Speaking of which…
I tried to email the recording of Rampion to The First Line today, but the file was too big to send via email so I uploaded it to our website. Which means that if anyone wants to listen to the uncompressed version you can. I’m assuming that TFL will crunch it some to make it
Rob and I finally went into the studio today to record Rampion for the First Line. It’s the first day in ages that we’ve both had the time and energy to set aside for it. Initially, I had thought I might do a multi-voice recording with sound effects, but I realized that the first line
