Elsie is a 7-year old calico cat who “talks” with buttons.
She is not speaking English in the same way that I know some words in French, but I don’t speak French. Think of Elsie like a toddler, whose native language isn’t English – and she’s an alien.
She’s using a tool called Augmentative Interspecies Communication. AIC is a scientifically-studied approach to fostering meaningful dialogue between humans and the animals we share our lives with.
Follow Elsie on Instagram to stay up to date on her shenanigans!
FAQ
How can I teach my pet to ‘talk’ with buttons?
I’ve made up a quick start guide you can download as a PDF here. Or you can start your journey with Fluent Pet buttons (use code “ELSIEWANT” to get 12% off) and utilize their button bootcamp.
What is Elsie’s fancy leg?
It’s a kitten hood injury that makes it difficult for her to bend it so often she sits it slides out to the side or down. However, recently I’ve begun to do physical therapy with her and there has been an increase in ability to bend and move it.
Does Elsie ever go out in public?
Sometimes, she has requested to travel with me on multiple occasions but I always try and give her a choice if she wants to go out and meet people so her attendance is not guaranteed. The best way to be informed if Elsie is doing any meet & greets at places I go is to subscribe to my author newsletter.
Is there Elsie Swag?
Yes! Right now the easiest way to get cool Elsie swag us through my Red Bubble shop. All the artwork was designed and drawn by me.
