Maggie, last day

I am at the vet, with Maggie dozing in my lap. Rob is on the way. We are having her put to sleep today. She is inobvious discomfort, but not crisis. As much as we love her and want to keep her around for us, she is not going to get better and the pain will get worse. Waiting would only buy her another week, maybe two. Still, this is very hard.

  1. Oh, Mary. Please deliver an extra stroke from me to the sweet Maggie before she is off on her journey. You have helped her lead a long and wonderful kitty life. Love and strength to you all.

  2. I’m so sorry. We love them, and they love us, and it falls to us to make the hard decisions.

    You are in our thoughts.

  3. I’m so very sorry to hear the news. I think those who haven’t gone through this won’t fully understand how difficult it is. Peace and prayers to your family.

  4. I’m so sorry. We’re never ready for a loved one to go. Try to take comfort in the fact you helped her to lead a joyful life.

  5. am so very sorry. this is the worst aspect of pet ownership — the most difficult part. try to remember how much she loves you and how much you’ve added to one another’s lives. just as she was a gift to you, you were a gift to her. you’re doing the brave and right thing, no matter how difficult it is. am thinking positive thoughts for you all.

  6. I lost my own Maggie-cat just over a year ago. This is the most heart-rending part of the otherwise joyful guardianship we take on of beloved pets. Go well, Maggie. And peace to you and Rob, Mary.

  7. It’s so hard to say good-bye. I admire so much your good sense and love in doing this before crisis, you really are doing the right thing. Hugs to you all, and peace for poor Maggie.

  8. Aw, Maggie. Goodbye sweet baby. Watch out for my friend Mary from wherever you are.

  9. I am sorry for your loss. Doing the right thing can be tremendously hard sometimes.

  10. I am so sorry for you guys. I love cats more than people sometimes (most of the time) and I know how hard it is to lose our cat friends. Glad the two of you got to spend some time with her before the end.

I’ve a big hug for you when I see you at Readercon. Bigger than usual perhaps.
