An outing with Ellen Datlow and whiskey, despite an ill husband.

Rob is terribly ill, which didn’t stop me from abandoning him for a night out on the town. I know. I’m a terrible wife. But… whiskey bar. What’s a girl going to do?  Blame it on Ellen Datlow, because surely my career was on the line if I didn’t go out with her and others to the Whiskey Branch. Right? It was for the greater good.

No. Really.

It had nothing to do with my having an interest in whiskeys or anything of the sort.  Only a strong desire to show a visitor a good time. Because with ten other people at dinner, she would have been lonely.

You’re not buying this, are you?

Fine. I blatantly abandoned my ill husband so I could go drinking. And dining. And I laughed. No, no,there’s no guilt here. Not at all. None.

sigh… You’re not buying that either, are you?

Is it possible for a girl to have fun AND feel guilty all at the same time? Yes. Yes it is. But the whiskeys were really lovely.

  1. I did something similar about…er…twelve years ago. We’re still married.

Clearly, you needed to leave the house to ensure that you, too, would not fall ill and thus be unable to tend him as his illness continues.

Exactly! And the whiskey was medicinal to stave off any impending germs.
