Having just remembered that tomorrow is the Hugo ballot deadline, I’m off to fill out my ballot. Since I’m having trouble remembering who is eligible for what, I’m going to figure that other folks are having the same problem. Here’s my list. Remind me of work that you think I should be considering for the ballot. Yours or someone else’s, in the comments below. Links are handy, if you have them.
Novel
- Glamour in Glass (Tor)
Novelette
- “The Lady Astronaut of Mars” — Rip-off! (Audible)
- “Mecury Retrograde” — Willful Impropriety: 13 Tales of Society, Scandal, and Romance
Short story
- “Ginger Stuyvesant and the Case of Eastwood Abbey” — TM Magazine
- “Weaving Dreams” — Apex
- “The White Phoenix Feather” — Fireside Magazine
Related Work
(Just as a note: Due to the way the Hugo rules are worded, the podcast Writing Excuses is ineligible in the category Fancast because we get paid. That’s why I have it under Related Work.)
Best Semiprozine
- Shimmer (Technically, I’m not really involved. I just gave them some money to raise their rates, but I did it because I love the magazine and you should too.)
So– What do you have for me? I swear– next year I’ll take notes, but this year, remind me of the exceptional stuff.
Edited to add: I’m particularly frustrated because my Best Pro Artist picks are all men. Remind me of women artists, please?
I’m eligible for Best Fan Writer. My fanzine, Argentus is available for Best Fanzine, and my story “In the Shadows of Broadway,” which appeared in the May 1 podcast of StarShipSofa is eligible in Short Story.
Fantastic. Thanks, Steven.
Strange Horizons is eligible in the semiprozine category (technically not a nomination for me personally, but still something I work hard to produce and would be proud to see on the ballot!), and the Outer Alliance Podcast is eligible in the fancast category.
I am compiling my ballot this evening as well, so this post is a timely reminder!
Thanks! I tend to think of Strange Horizons as pro, but that’s thinking of it as a writer rather than in the nomination categories.
I am eligible for Best Fan Writer. I do reviews at SF Signal and the Functional Nerds. I also do the Roll Perception Plus Awareness column at SF Signal, many of the Mind Melds there, and am a co-host on the Skiffy and Fanty podcast. I also have done a number of guest posts on various genre topics for blogs ranging from Kate Elliott’s to Bastard Books.
I am glad you reminded me that you are eligible in Fan Writer.
