Summer?

I was off today and the weather was actually warm enough to sit outside and write. Amazing. I didn’t even need a coat, although I did have on a fleece. I spent some time working on revisions for Ginger Stuyvesant and the Case of the Haunted Nursery and think I have a clear plan of attack, which will result in junking most of the story. I could try to fix it in other ways, but I think this might be easier.

I also worked on The Bride Replete. I took a big chunk of the day to think about calendars and units for measuring time. I’m creating an alien culture, so I can’t exactly have references to June. For the record, the Mayan calendar hurts my brain.

I’ve broken the calendar into twenty-two months, each eighteen days long. My aliens use half-months, but don’t have weeks. I’m ignoring the fact that everything is in base 8 for them, because that would involve math and frankly I doubt that it will come up. I suppose if I’m being really thorough in my world-building I’ll have to decide if they’ve invented zero. But again, this would involve math.

Ick.

Meanwhile, here’s what I’ve actually written today.
First

Starving girls filled the room with pallid silks, almost disappearing against the white walls.

Last

The replete leaned against this.
