So, the exciting news is… that I need a new evening gown!
In all seriousness though, Shades of Milk and Honey has been nominated for a Nebula, which is an incredible honor. Â Particularly when you look at the ballot this year.
- The Native Star, M.K. Hobson (Spectra)
- The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, N.K. Jemisin (Orbit UK; Orbit US)
- Shades of Milk and Honey, Mary Robinette Kowal (Tor)
- Echo, Jack McDevitt (Ace)
- Who Fears Death, Nnedi Okorafor (DAW)
- Blackout/All Clear, Connie Willis (Spectra)
The full list of nominees is on the SFWA site. It’s a very exciting year.
Yes! Very happy for you, Mary! Heartiest congrats!
Thank you so much!
Congratulations, Mary!
And I agree – it’s a very interesting lineup this year.
Thank you! And it really is a nicely diverse set of fiction and authors.
YAY!! So happy for you.
I need a new evening gown too…
See! This is the best reason EVER to need an evening gown. Congratulations, my dear.
Congrats again, Mary! Can’t wait to see you in D.C.!
Congratulations to you as well! D.C. will be such fun!
Congratulations!
I third the need for gowns. Also, probably new shoes.
I wish you every joy of your news and preparations!
Ooo! Shoes! I wasn’t thinking about that. Having just seen that M.K. Hobson is making a Victorian dress, I’m now tempted to make a new Regency gown. But suspect I’ll go with something slightly more recent.
Too Totally Cool 🙂
My fav author, C. J. Cherryh, only got a couple Hugos, a John W. Campbell, a Locus, and a few others…
Now there’s a topic:
Which is more important, author or fan accolades? Neither? Both??
Do awards clearly aid sales???
The answer to your question depends on the author. I’d say “both.”
Winning an award can provide a bump in sales. But with anything, you have to leverage the nomination or the award or the readers won’t know it exists.
Well deserved Mary! Congrats! I heartily agree with the committee that picked your book. =)
Thanks! Although, it’s better than a committee. This award is voted on by the members of SFWA. So these are my peers picking Shades of Milk and Honey. It’s a little staggering.
Fantastic! And well deserved. Congratulations and best of luck.
Thank you!
Congratulations! First a vacation in Hawaii and now this, what a great week!
Truly, this week does not suck.
Congrats!
Thanks!
Ah, I only just discovered today that you had published a novel. I look forward to reading it when I get my hands on a copy. And a Nebula nomination! It’s kinda exciting to find all this out at once. I’m amazed, but not surprised. I used to love reading things you wrote back in the day. There was that collection of stories, back in the 1980s, what was it called? “Fantasy Chain Note,” I think, or something like that. I’m sure some of your stories were in that. Not sure what happened to it, though. It would be good to read those again. Anyway, you’re enormously talented, and I congratulate you. Can’t wait to read it.
Wow! Talk about a voice from the past. I don’t remember what the giant chain note story was called but it was something like that. I’m not sure who has it now but it would amuse me if it turned up again. Are you still in N.C.?
