Sitting with Grandma

My family is taking turns sitting in the hospital room with Grandma, in case she needs anything. Tonight is my turn. The plan now is for her to go home tomorrow evening, but it’s hard to believe that at the moment. Her mind is as sharp as ever, but lying in the hospital bed makes her look greatly diminished.

She’s asleep right now but we chatted a bit when I got in. I brought the newspaper and the Bible, in case she wants me to read to her. We’re both hoping that she’ll sleep through the night.

I also brought a manuscript to edit, but the room is too dark to see the paper. Alas. I might write instead. Or maybe nap. I’m going to bet that you can expect frequent blog posts tonight. Posts about absolutely nothing.

  1. I know how it is. Hospital beds are so big that they dwarf normal-sized people, and then somehow you always perceive a sick person as being smaller than they actually are because they feel so bad. When my mother was having kidney stone surgery the other week, I felt the same as you. She was fine and went home on schedule but the first couple of days were harder on me and my father than they were on her, apparently. I think it’s a pretty common feeling, all things considered.

Try not to nap unless they’ve brought you one of those rollaway beds…hospital chairs are just notoriously hard and nasty and ache-inducing. Might want to pull up a time-sucking game or one of the lovely free e-books from Tor…I’ve got a game on Facebook that has seriously eaten me up, lol.

  2. My thoughts are with you both this evening.. I hope the night passes uneventfully. Healing energy on its way to that room, I look forward to a string of interesting posts by morning,

  3. Mary, Would you mind to ask your grandmother
to recall for you, one of her favorite Bible passages?
From the perspective of her long life, I would
find that most interesting. Thank you.

Rest well if you can, cherished granddaughter.

  4. Hey. I don’t really have anything insightful to say, but I am thinking of you tonight. Hope all is well and continues to be well.

  5. Need me to send you a short-story by text? 😉 Hang in there. If you need entertaining websites or links and run out of ideas send me an email…I’ll be up all night.
