Rob and I are at the Portland airport on our way to Minnesota. Our nephew on his side is getting married this weekend. It will be good to see his family. We got to spend time with them when we moved to NYC but the route we took back didn’t take us through their town.
While we are out there, I’ll head into Minneapolis to do a reading at Uncle Hugo’s so I’ve packed my Regency duds and the tiny little puppet show. Since it’s Minnesota, I’m also bringing the pencil-necked little weasel. It just seems appropriate.
Cool! I lived in Minnesota for a couple years. We loved the people there. But, the winters? Those I could do without 😉
We were here right before Christmas once. The cold was… impressive. And I say this as someone who has lived in Iceland.
I grew up in southern California, so you can imagine my shock 😉
The clincher for me wanting to move came when we visited my family in southern CA for Christmas, and it was in the 60s and 70s. Then, on the plane trip home, we had a lay-over in Arizona, where the temp was about 80. And, then when we debarked in Minneapolis, it was about -15 degrees (including the wind chill). That was just too much of a jump for me to make.
I remember my company had trucks that would drive around the parking lot at quitting time to help jump anyone who couldn’t get their car started because of the cold.
But, summers, like right now there, were absolutely heavenly. Of course, the state bird started coming out then too, so we had to be careful – the state bird of Minnesota is the mosquito 😉
In any case, I hope your reading goes well.
