Oh Calendar, where art thou?

Dear Internet,

I would like a writing tool that works much like Google Calendar, except that it will allow me to set up dates in 1817. Do you have one of those? I need to be able to put my timeline in so that I can look at dates by month, day, or hour, or a list of agenda items.

Sincerely,

Me

PS Yes, I know years are cyclical, but the moon phases doesn’t line up with the calendar all nice and tidy that way. And yes, I am a big geek.

  1. I don’t know of any tool like that, but if you can’t find one, maybe try using Google Calendar with the year 1969? It’s a non-leap year starting on Wednesday, and the moon cycles match up exactly: the first full moon in 1969 and 1817 are both on January 3.

  2. Additional problem: the Gregorian reform of the calendar was not implemented at the same time by all nations, so between 1582 and 1923 “what day is it” depended on “where are we”… Britain aligned in 1750, and only Orthodox countries waited untill the 20th century, so you should be fine ignoring this particular detail

    1. Thank you for reminding me. I checked Italy, which is where they are, and that’s fine. BUT they are getting a letter from Prague and the date would be different on the letter. I might ignore that and not list the date…
