Oh thank heavens. Yesterday the darn thing crashed and Would. Not. Restart. Oh… it would power up, but trying to get it past the “Windows is Starting Up” screen seemed impossible. Even trying the system repair route and F8 proved ineffective. So I finally decided to shut it down, go to bed, and hoped that it would cool off over night and miraculously fix itself.
Behold!
It did the system repair thing when I tried to start it this morning, but it actually worked this time. While I backup regularly, I was not looking forward to the hassle involved in computer death. And of course, there’s also the terror of wondering if the last backup actually happened.
Oh yes. I am checking that this morning, yes I am.
Three suggestions from me that might help a little, Mary.
1. Since your computer moved recently, you might try reseating all the components: cables, DIMMs, cards, etc. Sometimes a loose one can cause intermittent havoc.
2. While you’ve got the case open, use a can of compressed air and blow out all the dust. That’s likely not your boot problem but the dust can lead to some overheating.
3. If you haven’t run a CHKDSK with the fix/repair option on, I’d recommend doing that.
Hope it behaves better for you!
