(Avoiding “The Handmaiden’s Tale Is Not Science Fiction” meme…) There’s a cartoon where a science fiction writer is telling a bunch of (presumably) literary writers, “You’re just jealous of my jet-pack.” How is “Shades of Milk and Honey” a foil to 19th C English literature? For well thought out reasons (which I understand and agree with), the word ‘fantasy’ does not appear on Shades of Milk and Honey’s jacket: How does this make “Shades of Milk and Honey” a foil to (the USA version of) Fantasy? Should Science Fiction or Fantasy be a foil to anything ?
