Farewell Iron Chefs

Is that right? Why isn’t the plural Iron Cheves?

Last night we went down to the Celsi’s for an Iron Chef reprise potluck. We’d all wanted to do another Iron Chef battle, but it just wasn’t in the cards. Eve reprised her Potato battle samosa dumplings in cardomon carrot sauce.

Don brought his amazing, amazing mushroom raviolli, which had won best overall when we did Best Of Iron Chef.

And me? My theme ingredient was “leftovers,” so I made a garbanzo, carrot, and shitake salad over a bed of greens.

Yani came with desserts from Pix Patisserie which are one of the many things I’ll miss about Portland.

But I’ll miss our friends more.

  1. I distinctly remember getting into an argument with my first grade teacher, Mrs. Gray. I told her that the plural of Indian chief should be Indian chieves, just like she had marked wrong on my paper. She of course corrected me and said that there was no place in the English language I would find such a construction.

I immediately asked, “What about handkerchieves?” and got a note sent home about being “mouthy.” 😀

(Yes, I was the runny-nosed allergy kid who read the dictionary for fun…)

  2. wow, Lon–how sad that she didn’t look it up and then write it on the board and use as a spelling object lesson. If I were a teacher, I think I would have been very proud of you 🙂

Mary, what a beautiful potluck. It all seems so sad, all this winding down and selling things and saying good bye. I know it will be worth it, though, but right now it seems hard.
