Clearly what Bach needs is more banjo.
Actually, I’m delighted by how well the mandolin and banjo work in The Punch Brothers’ rendition. They are reminiscent of harpsichord.

The video is available on iTunes. What I really want, though, is a studio track. This is wonderful.
It’s just a really good version. I want it too. I wonder if they have an album with it…
That… rocks.
Alas, no album with *that* on it, but they do have two albums… I’m with you, though. I’d throw a couple bucks in the tip jar for that… (Me and Apple don’t get along, or I’d go nab the vid…)
Great performance — and their sound guy nailed the mix. Getting a good live board mix on a crowded stage like that is tough.
Man, I just love hearing music made by folks who clearly are having fun with it.
PS: Mary: check out Marian Call. http://www.mariancall.com. Tremendous voice. Great tunes. And she uses a typewriter as percussion. Plus she’s genre-savvy. Her “Got to Fly” album was inspired by “Firefly” and “Battlestar Galactica”.
I love (!) classical music played with non-classical instruments. Thanks for sharing that!
