A close call with gondolas and coffee

Here at the retreat, I’ve been trying to finish Valour and Vanity which is set in Venice. Last night, I was struggling with a scene that involves a gondola and finally decided to go to bed and sleep on it. I plugged my computer into the outlet on the kitchen counter, where I tend to keep it while not using it here, and headed got about as far as the bedroom, before an idea hit me.

I went back, grabbed the computer, and made the notes. Then decided to keep the computer in the bedroom, in case I had any midnight brainstorms. Which I did.

In the morning, I walked into the kitchen, and the coffee pot had overflowed all over the counter where my computer had been sitting.

Had I not been having trouble with the scene, the water-based scene, the coffee would have hit my brand new computer. You know, the one I bought after a water bottle spilled on my old one.

So, this morning? Hurrah for plot problems.

  1. Hmmm, I wonder if replacing the little rubber feet on the bottom of the computer with bottlecaps might not be a good idea. Leif it up about a 1/4 inch to bridge it over the next liquid issue.
