Look! The Dr. Who anthology that I’m in, Destination Prague, came out today. Oh my goodness. I’m such a geek, because you know, Dr. Who! I think that my early watching of Tom Baker’s Dr. Who really marked the beginning of my geekhood. (Dad? Care to comment?) It is especially apropos that Destination Prague comes

Oh happy day, I’ve been looking for a while for a Word Press progress meter that doesn’t require me to update the code all the time. Behold Deborah McDonnell made ProgressFly, which is available on her site, scribbling damselfly which does everything I could ask it to do. There’s an easy control panel for customizing

I just got word that my application to become an active member of SFWA has been approved.
While I’m posting free fiction, I’d also like to say why I generally don’t. I’ve been a puppeteer, professionally, since 1989. When I first started out, I did some freebies for exposure and you know what? I didn’t get a single gig from any of those. I have yet to see a venue that offered

John Scalzi has posted the first chapter of The Android’s Dream on his website, with the following notice. Happy March 12! As you all undoubtedly know, March 12 is the day that Coca-Cola was first sold in bottles, which means, for a Coca-Cola fiend such as myself, it’s pretty much a national holiday. As you
As if any of you writer-types read my blog and not The Slush God’s, but, just in case, here’s what Captain John Joseph Adams says about the slush pooling in the holds of Shimmer‘s pirate issue. Of course, I do have the exciting pirate filter, so you can read his comments in the piratical style

Now, if you’re in the voting mood. Apex is considering doing a calendar with each month having a scene from a story published in 2006. Wouldn’t you like to see my story, “Cerbo en Vitra ujo,” have a page in this calendar? All you have to do is drop by Apex’s site and vote. Such
If you are filling out your Hugo nomination form at the last minute, here’s a reminder that Shimmer is eligible for a semipro magazine nomination. I am eligible for a Campbell, but I’m in my first year of eligibility, so I’d like to put a plug in for a few folks who are in their

I got my contributor copy of Cosmos in the mail and it’s lovely. This marks two firsts for me; first full-size magazine and the first time my name appears on the cover. (It’s in the lower right corner) As promised in their guidelines, there’s a two page spread of art to go with my story,

Aliette de Bodard just posted the first sentences of her last five stories, and I thought it looked like fun. So here are mine. The Wentworths of Long Parkmead had the regard of their neighbors in every respect. (Shades of Milk and Honey) As the ventilator pushed air into his lungs, Samuel savored the brine
If you’re working on your pirate story, today is your last day to submit it to Shimmer. Captain John Joseph Adams is all set to turn the canons on any latecomers.

Deanna Hoak, professional copy-editor, makes a very compelling argument on why she prefers manuscripts to be in Courier. It has the distinction of also being the shortest argument I’ve seen. Go read it and see if you agree.

I had wanted to attend the Rainforest Writers Village but was afraid to schedule it because of my utterly random travel plans. And now we’ve rescheduled our Hawaii trip to be smack dab on top of the RWV. HOWEVER, I happen to know that they still have some spots open, and just because I can’t

I had forgotten how much I love writing on the subway. I use my PDA and write in graffiti while I’m waiting for the train, then on the train as well. Sometimes I only get a couple of sentences, other times, an entire scene. I think about the story when I’m walking to the station.
