There’s a link to a 40 minute presentation about how the horses were developed, including a solid 10 minute demo of Joey the horse. You watch the puppeteers get into the figure and then they just vanish. God, this is beautiful work.

Wow, it is truly amazing… the “apple trick” at the end really makes you realize how invested you have become in the emotional desires of Joey, even after just a few minutes of watching him. Humans? What humans?
What’s spectacularly impressive about that is that — though they’ve clearly rehearsed together a lot — that performance is largely improvised.
