01:35 I just finished macheing the stone witch’s head and am cleaning up to head for home. I think tomorrow I get to paint. Yay! # 13:40 They are testing the fire alarm in the building. We are not amused. How long does it take, really, to figure out that, yes, it makes noise. # […]

Track your cycle

Gentlemen, you might want to skip this entry, I’m talking about girl things. For the past couple of months, I’ve been using Mon.thly.Info, which is a web-based tool that tracks your cycle. I am totally in love with it. Not only does it offer places for you to record things like when things start, it

Woodwitch construction

The Woodwitch is supposed to look like she’s gathered a bunch of sticks and built herself out of them. I did a technical sketch on the large drawing of her and then dived in. This is the shoulder yoke. After cutting out the shape on the bandsaw, I drilled two holes for the support poles.

City Winery video

The local news covered City Winery, where Rob works, the other day. If you look quickly, you can spot him several times throughout the footage. He’s the one on the left in this shot. Just in case you didn’t know what Rob looks like.

Auction to Benefit the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence

Jim C. Hines is having an auction to benefit the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. As I mentioned last week, I’m auctioning off an advance review copy of The Stepsister Scheme. All proceeds will be donated to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The auction is now live. I went for the 10-day listing, so

01:19 It is never completely comfortable to be alone in a building, to know that one is alone, and to hear something fall over. # 01:34 I think I’ve hit the point of diminishing returns. Time for me to head for home. # 02:36 I was writing to someone and started to type, “my friend”

Want a day at the winery?

Hey, my lovely NYC readers. Is anyone interested in working at the winery with Rob tomorrow from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00p.m.? It’s $10 per hour, which is isn’t much, but it’s a fascinating look at wine-making. They’re getting in a shipment of grapes tomorrow and need a couple of people to help sorting fruit. I’ll

13:33 The leaves on my street are starting to change color. # 20:03 I’m cutting out the yoke for the wood witch’s shoulders. # 20:07 That went faster than I thought. Now, I’ll sand the sucker to get rid of the copious amounts of splinters. # 20:18 Moving on to installing the shoulder-yoke to the

Sale! Ginger Stuyvesant and the Case of the Haunted Nursery to Talebones

I’m delighted that “Ginger Stuyvesant and the Case of the Haunted Nursery” is going to appear in Talebones #38, tentatively scheduled for Spring 2009.  This will be my second time in Talebones, which is one of my favorite magazines. Seriously, if you’re only going to subscribe to one magazine (besides Shimmer) I highly recommend Talebones.

The Dark Crystal

Last night a group of us went to see the midnight showing of the Dark Crystal. This is the first time I’ve seen it projected since its original appearance in 1982. What amazed me was how well the puppetry stands up. The other special effects? Not so much. I’m not sure if I should chalk
