Updates for 2011-04-13

  • Glued Thor's spine together. I think he'll be happier now. #
  • I've got Odin's beak soaking in a bowl of water. #
  • I'm trying to restrict the movement at the eagle's balls by wrapping foam around them and his staff. Also, you all have dirty minds. #
  • The foam still left the eagle's balls too sloppy. I'm binding them with a stiffer foam to restrict the movement. #
  • Meanwhile the eagle's beak is out of the water and drying with a set of vise grips to hold the shape. #
  • I zip-tied the foam around the eagle's balls and his staff to test it and am very happy with the movement. Very snug with just enough play. #
  • At home I had a vise I could clamp the eagle's staff in while working on his balls. Here, I have to hold it between my thighs. It's harder. #
  • I suspect a photo of the mechanism I'm working on will not actually make "eagle's balls" sound any less dirty. http://plixi.com/p/91865719 #
  • Gluing another piece of foam around the top of the staff to cup the eagle's top ball for just a tad more resistance. #
  • Gluing the eagle's beak in place. Now he no longer looks like the world's happiest Odin. #
  • Darn it. It looks like Odin's brains are spooging out of his eye. #
  • Whew. Was able to spoon the excess foam out from the back of his head. #
  • I'm untying Odin's head from his spine and wishing I hadn't tied such a good knot. #
  • Mounting Odin's grip in his head. #
  • Woot! Odin is fully mounted and very smooth and responsive. Restricting him worked. #
  • Wrapping construction up for the day. I'll take a quick break and then watch the rehearsal tonight. #
  • Swapped the spring through the eagle's balls for a stout bungee. He was making noise. #
  • Carving the thumbhole in Loki's rump a little deeper. Adding a pocket to the thumbhole for a better grip. #
  • Great! I can now insert my thumb up to the first knuckle in Loki's rump. This should give him better action in the hindquarters. #
  • Contemplating removing Loki's tail and reinstalling higher with a short rod. #
  • It doesn't matter how effective this grip is, I don't think it is really appropriate for a children's show… http://plixi.com/p/92072862 #
  • Slicing Loki's belly open to remove some of the bulk. #
  • Loki's belly is restitched. I just need a wire brush to make the seam invisible. #
  • I'm stitching Loki's ruff to his shoulders. It needs stout stitching because it's a structural connection. #
  • Just took a look at Thor against the floor and we might be bleaching him. I'm going to do a test after lunch. #
