I’ve posted the draft of Chapter 2 for those of you reading along. I’ve got a teaser below, and have hidden it because it does have a mild spoiler for Shades of Milk and Honey.

Jane entered the parlour with the morning mail, eager to show Vincent the letter that they had received from London. She stopped in surprise in the doorway. The snow had stopped during the night, so the morning sun came in a dazzling wave across the parlour. It cast her husband’s form into stark relief where he stood next to the fireplace, scratching his back against the corner of the mantel. His eyes were closed and his brow furrowed in concentration.
Despite his blue coat of superfine wool, the tan breeches, and his tall Hessian boots, Vincent looked like nothing so much as a bear, come in for the winter. His thick crop of curly brown hair was disordered as always, but Jane half expected him to produce a comb of honey and begin eating it. She laughed, covering her mouth in delight at the image.
