I made it. Bed now.
In a delightful turn, I kept waking up during the night with a sore throat. My nephew is getting over strep throat, while I think it unlikely that I developed overnight strep it does seem likely that I’m contagious. Which means that my plans to visit friends during the day before heading back are fairly
I arrived safely in Raleigh this evening after an easy drive. Koren, Katherine, Peter, Emily and I went to the Olive Garden where we had the smarmiest waiter ever. He was like a lounge lizard turned waiter. He inserted himself into every conversation and made them all about him. It was really bad technique. The
I’ve stopped for coffee and quiched and–behold!–internet at a little shop in Asheville en route to visit family in Raleigh. While here, I’ve had to advise the barista on the merits of cellphones. Why she lacks local friends to whom she can ask these questions, I don’t know.
I’m driving up to Raleigh to visit my sister-in-law and my nieces and nephew and Mom suggested that I bake them one of her famous poundcakes. Unfortunately, folks were in the kitchen talking to me and I missed a step. I’m not quite sure what I’m going to do with the result. It looks like
Check out the review at Tangent Online of Shimmer, #2, Winter 2006 I missed the premier issue of Shimmer, but found this second issue a joy to read. It was like opening a box of mixed chocolates. Although I like some of the fillings better than others, all were delicious and I couldn’t stop eating

Last night, while waiting for a recipe to chill, I amused myself by helping out John Joseph Adams with his headshots. As a joke, I also created a tribute which he has on his blog, The Slush God Speaketh: New Photos. Some people knit for a passtime, I photoshop.

Remember that dog that followed Rob home? It’s time to admit that Rob and I are adopting him. We’ve tried to find the owners, we’ve tried to find a new home but we’ve gotten attached to him. His working title is Buster, after Buster Keaton, and he’s a darn good dog. Mom and Dad are
You have to scroll down a bit to see Lois Tilton’s review of Portrait of Ari on the IROSF — February Short Fiction Review but please do. The highlight, for me: For all its brevity and apparent simplicity, this story packs a strong emotional punch. Beautifully, quietly done.

Rob just returned from his first eye doctor appointment in ten years. He knew that his prescription had shifted, and we thought it would be best to get them checked before Iceland. The doctor said that he’ll be fine for another year, but that he’s at that “magic age” (40) where it’s time to start
Ooo! And as a birthday present I got my first review at Tangent Online for Portrait of Ari. While I wish that the italics sections had come across as supressed memories, hence Tom’s feeling of deja vu, I’m happy that Mr. Fischer enjoyed the rest of the story. I’ll just have to work harder next

I’m thirty-seven today. In an interesting twist, I was born on the anniversary of Mary, Queen of Scots’ beheading. When I was younger, I used to think that was significant.
I just sold Cerbo in Vitra ujo to Apex Digest. It will probably be in Issue 6, which comes out in June, but I’ll post for certain when I know the date. I’m thrilled, although it is an icky, icky story–my first foray into horror. This will be the first sale that I don’t give

I would sum up the weekend but Steve Savile did such a nice job covering the writing portion, that I’ll just talk about Grandma’s birthday party. I made the little packets of recipe cards, each containing fourteen recipes daintily tied with a sheer blue bow. We had a basked of those sitting on the table
