my aunt tried so hard every summer to teach me Cherokee. my mom doesn’t speak it, and would go off on rants about how it was 198something, we speak ENGLISH now, i don’t need to know Cherokee.
so every summer, we essentially started over.

how much worse, when your ancestral land is on the other side of a huge ocean?
