Two recommendations

I spent more time packing today and got a corner of the dining room cleared. Whew.

Also, finished reading The Android’s Dream, by John Scalzi, which I really enjoyed. Good clean fun, which is something to say for a book that starts with a chapter-long fart joke.

Rob and I took the bus over to Cinema 21 to see Pan’s Labyrinth. Wow. Highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of dark fairytales. Beautifully acted, filmed and conceived. My only complaint is that woman sitting behind me was an idiot and didn’t turn her cellphone off. She also talked during the film. The film itself is very, very strong.

  1. Ah, I so want to see Pan, but can’t get any of my lame friends to go and see it. *le sigh*

Did you catch Mirrormask? I bought it on a whim the other day. Must watch it… after January 31st!

  2. Two submission deadlines, one for Shimmer!

Alas, insane workloads at Imagination and the house purchase from hell have meant slow progress so far – I’m up for a busy and caffeine fuelled dash to the end. It’s gonna be a photo finish!

  3. Then I would cheer and dance, and get considerably more sleep before work tomorrow than I was going to. If you’re serious then that’s awesome – thanks!

  4. I’ll be good! I’ll be good!

It’ll be before then, but that takes the heat off. I’ll just pretend it’s still on. Cheers! Hope your own house fun is going well.

  5. *Loved* Pan’s Labyrinth. I especially liked the voice of faun. Spanish, and so for me incomprehensible, but it seemed cooler for being spoken in a non-English tongue. He seemed somehow more ancient because of it. I also thought Captain Vidal was excellently acted. One of the best portrayals of “evil” I’ve seen. Not over the top. Just casually malignant.
