I really enjoyed your story, Mary. It was wonderful, just wonderful. “Portrait of Ari” reminded me how much I have missed reading your stories.
Congratulations on the pro-sale and all of your recent successes!

I can only hope to someday reach this level.
Loved it. Beautiful and moving. I love the feeling of alienation that bubbles just beneath the surface.
I owe Maggie a big thank-you.

Thank you both! I’m really delighted to have it up there. This started as a scene in my first novel. The novel had irredeemable plot problems, but I really liked these characters and this story grew out of that.

Thanks for sharing the insight of how your story came about. Such little tidbits about different people’s writing process and practices intrigue me. (It’s the anthropologist coming out.)

It’s my pleasure. And for your further amusement I just posted the original scene on the writing side of the website.
