The trade paperback of Shades of Milk and Honey releases today!
There are three things that are exciting about that.
1. It’s cheaper!
2. It has Chapter One of Glamour in Glass in it.
3. I have a game for you, Shades and Glamour.
Shades and Glamour is based on an alternate history of the English Regency. The game mimics social life in 1814 — if one adds magic. The goal is to improve one’s social standing. Social standing is the value of one’s cards. One improves it by acquiring better cards. As with all romances, the game ends when a character becomes betrothed by losing his or her last card.
The game started as me wanting to have character cards so that I had something to sign for people who purchased the electronic edition of the book. Then I met Monte Cook at MidSouthCon when we were both Guests of Honor and he seduced me to the dark side by talking about game design. To my surprise, game design appears to fire in the same part of my brain that theater design does.
Granted, I just have this one, but… let’s just say that there’s a sequel to Shades of Milk and Honey coming out in Winter 2012, and I’m already thinking about the expansion pack of the game for Glamour in Glass.
The game comes with eight character cards: Miss Ellsworth, Mr. Vincent, Miss Melody Ellsworth, Mrs. Ellsworth, Mr. Ellsworth, Mr. Dunkirk, Miss Dunkirk, and Miss FitzCameron.
If you want Captain Livingston or Lady FitzCameron, I’ll have their cards with me at events…
