[Redacted] and I had an interesting discussion today. I don’t know if I’ll be back next season. [Redacted] finds me extremely frustrating and impossible to work with. We have agreed that we should concentrate on getting through the next couple of weeks. So we have separated to think and here’s what I think I’ll say when we get back together. I enjoy working at [redacted] (usually) and want to stay on next season. But that’s in the future and we’ll deal with the future in the future. To deal with the present… You’ve basically got two Marys. There’s the me that’s the designer/production manager for Pied and the me that’s a performer.
The performer side would love to say design is finished and do the details like painting. Turn the decisions/production manager stuff over to someone else so I can focus on my performance.
Since there doesn’t seem to be anyone else to deal with this. (R– has 4 shows in rehearsal, L– has two shows to build… etcetera) Here are the things you ( [Redacted]) can do to make it easier and less stressful for us to work togehter.
- If there is a design question please save it till after rehearsal, because I am not prepared or equipped to deal with it while trying to focus on performance AND it wastes J–‘s time.
- Daily meetings to touch base. Preferably after rehearsals so that we can cover any questions raised during the day.
- Clarification of job boundaries/description. K– pointed out that this in an ongoing process and we should expect disagreements as we work things out.
