By request, here is my mom’s cobbler recipe.
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 stick butter
1 cup milk
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 quart fruit, sweetened to tasteMelt butter in deep baking pan. Pour on top of it a batter made of sugar, flour, milk and baking powder. Have ready for it the fruit with the extra sugar. Pour the hot fruit on top of the batter. Bake in oven at 350 for 25 minutes.
Mom says adds a dash of cinnamon and that sometimes she puts walnuts on top.
Edited to add: This works with just about any fruit. I’ve made blackberry, peach, and apple cobblers. Mom says she makes pear cobbler sometimes.
Whoa. That sounds good!
I have a bunch of mango
that will be just right
for this recipe! Thanks.
Does sounds yummy and it looks easy to do. I assume it works with standard fruits like berries or peaches, but how much fruit should it take?
Argh! Never mind. Just noticed it said “1 quart” not just “fruit.”
This dish is delish. Don’t know who requested it, but thanks!
Thanks a bunch for posting the recipe.
I just read your response from the other post and went “Duh, of course that’s why it has two types of fruit in it.” I plead low brainwave activity when I read it…
I’ve been thinking of possible combinations since I saw the original and asked. Strawberry Rhubarb of course and I was thinking this would work with apricots also. Apples and raisins with the cinnamon sounds good too.
I have a friend with more Asian pears than they know what to do with. I think this would be a good way to help them out with the excess. I’m so self sacrificing that way. 8D
Thanks again

learn from my mistake!!! Be certain not to accidently mis remember Mary’s directions and use baking soda instead of powder… 3 teaspoons of baking soda gives your cobbler a putrescent greenish black tinge. Not at all what happens when one keeps their wits about them and uses the correct leavening agent!
