First 1 star review at Amazon = Rite of passage

As a rite of passage, I have my first one star review at Amazon. The only thing which truly bothers me about this is that she thinks I’m misusing the words “droll” and “nuncheon.” Which I’m not.

Droll occurs in dialogue where one character finds another characters curtness amusing.

Nuncheon means “light afternoon snack” or, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, “a small meal taken at or around the noon hour.” Jane Austen uses the word both ways.

NOT to imply that my language usage is perfect. I goofed on things like the word “check” which I used as in “to look in on.” In 1814 it would have meant “stop.” I’m certain that there are other vocabulary anachronisms however “droll” and “nuncheon” are not two of them.

Other than that, it’s a nice example of how not everyone has the same taste.

Edited to add: Since I’ve had several “there, there, dear” emails, I just want to make sure that everyone understands that this really, really doesn’t bother me. The way I look at it is that it’s like getting to overhear an audience member after a play say that they didn’t like it. I wish they did, but it’s still just one person out of a larger audience. I’ve yet to be in a show that was universally loved.
