In film and television, there’s something called a “reaction shot” in which we see how a character reacts to whatever just happened. This is as important in prose, but we have more tools at our disposal because we can go inside a character’s head. Learn how to share your character’s reactions to provide a gateway for the reader to go deeper into the story, without bogging the action down.
