Online No Prep NaNoWriMo Class
October 06, 2019— 7pm to 9pm Central
Mary Robinette is teaching a No-Prep NaNoWriMo class on Oct 6, 2019. Get your tickets here.
November will be here soon.
You’ve decided that you want to do NaNoWriMo but you don’t want to do an outline. You also don’t want to write 50,000 words of crap. If you understand the basic tools of story-telling, you can write-by-the-seat-of-your-pants and still have something that has a sense of structure.
In a two-hour workshop, we’ll look at basic story structure and how to use that to keep your story focused and on track, even while you’re making it up as you go along. Students will receive a recorded copy of the lecture, homework, and have an in-class opportunity to ask questions specific to their WIP. Best of all, everything you write in class counts toward your overall 50,000 word goal.
And if you don’t want to do NaNo, but want to learn to write without outlining, this class will teach you that.
Classes will be taught via Zoom
Classwork will be uploaded to a shared Google Drive folder visible only to you and your classmates. The class will be divided between lecture and exercise. The class is capped at 40 students.
Class requirements: You need an interest in writing fiction, but you do not need to have written or published anything yet. You also must be able to use Zoom on a computer. (Note: You don’t need a web camera, although they’re useful, but you do need a working microphone, the internet and some speakers so you can hear us.)
Women of Color Grant: For this class, I have two chairs reserved for two women of color. To apply, simply fill out this web form.
