Uber-flexible seating.

Some of you may not know this, but I have weakness for folding furniture. I collect it, in fact.

So, you know I want one these collapsible sofas..

FlexibleLove™ experimental furniture incorporates an ‘accordian-like, honeycomb’ structure to create durable furniture pieces produced from widely-available, low-cost recycled materials. FlexibleLove™ furniture pieces, such as FlexibleLove 16™, are made wholly from recycled paper and wood products, and are produced using pre-existing manufacturing processes in order to reduce their overall impact on the environment.

The name “FlexibleLove” was derived from the concept of a ‘flexible love-seat’ – seating that could hold from one to as many as sixteen individuals; changing length and shape with a simple pull at each end. A honeycomb structure, used throughtout the entire FlexibleLove line, produces an accordian-like result that allows each piece to be collapsed and extended with ease.

You can read more about it at FlexibleLove site. Even with the explanation, may I say, that is one of the worst product names, ever. But I still want one.

  1. wow, very very nifty. I hope they design a table that can do that someday… Actually, this would be an extremely practical purchase for a new york apartment…

  2. I noticed that he never sat on it. At first I though that it would leave some pressure marks on your body, especially if it were spread out to the full sofa length but after watching it again it looks like the sections are close enough together that that isn’t the problem and it is probably strong enough to hold the load, even of a fat man because the weight would be distributed over a larger area; however, I wonder what keeps it from falling over sideways. Did you see the ends wobble when he was adjusting it? He may have that problem solved, but not a single photo showed anyone sitting on it. Still, it is not a surprise that you want one.

  3. Well, I just now followed the first link you put up instead of going from the video and there were the photos showing people sitting on it. The top one with a whole crowd sitting on it and the people on the ends having their feet off the ground was impressive.
