Sunny day, sweeping the clouds away…

Woot! I’ve been keeping of this partly under my hat because I was afraid of jinxing it, but just got word that it’s official.

Many of you may remember, that I auditioned for a Sesame Street workshop last year.

It was an amazing experience, but I figured my chances were slim of getting to do more. Still, getting to do a high level masterclass like that was worth the experience, even if I never got to step foot on Sesame Street.

If you follow me on Twitter, then you may have noticed me squeeing suddenly about two weeks ago, with good news that I couldn’t talk about.

That was when I got an email checking on my availability for two days of work to assist on Season 46 of Sesame Street.

The urge was to just say YES without checking my calendar, because OMG Sesame Street– But. I did check annnnnd…. some of the dates conflicted with book launch and tour. The agony. THE AGONY. So I told Tor what was going on, and they said, “Go! It’s [appropriate cursing] Sesame Street!” So I let them know that I was available.

Again, those of you on twitter may have seen another tweet, in which I was a little excited.

That was the day when I got my confirmation of dates which do NOT conflict with the book stuff after all. Yay, for careers not colliding!

Now, today, I can tell you that I’ll be heading to Sesame Street.

  1. Excellent. Sesame Street really tried to break down barriers and connect with children in a truly unique way. Not sure if you have watched Being Elmo: A Puppeteer’s Journey. Check it out on Netflix here is the IMDB link http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1787660/reference

Good luck with your quest it’s all about being playful and connecting with people 🙂

  2. “When someone asks you if you are a god …”

After some lost opportunities, I’ve decided that if a really good one comes along, you just say yes. Back out later if you have to, but don’t let it slip away. Very happy for you!

  3. WOW.. And just when I thought you couldn’t get any cooler.

Congrats and say howdy to Oscar, Big Bird, and the rest of the gang for me.

The only reason I believe you, on this, the most foolish of days, is that I can’t see any humor in you coming back to tell us our congratulations were wasted… so YAY!

Seriously though, you picked a terrible day to announce good news.

So, I came to your site with the express purpose of seeing what your April Fool’s joke would be this year, and I sincerely hope this isn’t it because doing Sesame Street would be just indescribably awesome and I’d be so sad if it wasn’t true!

  6. Go where the air is clear!!! Give the Bird a great big hug…let us know when so we can watch the episodes or however it works…omg! Grats!
And Yeah Tor for being so understanding about the importance of one street in the universe!

  7. On the contrary, Lyssa: if this is, in fact, an April Fool’s joke then it is an incredible long-con on the part of Mary to set this up basically a month ago. Much respect.

However, I hope this IS the real thing, because how awesome would that be!? Congrats!

  8. Wow! In honor of this news, and after having talked to you about your puppetry and such before, I leave this video and a Yaaayy! 😀

  9. Congrats! I auditioned for the same masterclass, but wasn’t quite up to snuff (something I knew going into it, but I *had* to at least try right?). It is great to see something more coming of it.

    1. I wholeheartedly agree. While I’m sure that Mary did attend the Workshop (since she posted pictures of herself with all the other attendees), and therefore the audition video isn’t fake, I can believe that she would take a couple of weeks and a few slyly-placed Tweets to set up this ”announcement” for this particular date.

      Well played, Ms. Kowal!

    1. . . . and now it occurs to me that this was the most recent post in the stack of your stuff in my RSS reader when I sat down to catch up with all the My Favorite Bits I’ve missed. <checks date> Well, I’m going to hope it’s true. 🙂

  10. AMAZING!! And I’m doing my Elmo voice (which is actually frighteningly good) by way of celebration.

    Congratulations, Mary. Very, very cool.
