Our route to NYC

Our route for moving to NYCIf you are curious about the route that we are taking to get to NYC, I’ve plotted it out. It meanders like that because we are stopping to visit friends and family on the way to NY. The only night we have to pay for lodging is the night we stop to visit Mt. Rushmore. I’ve performed in both of the Dakotas, but never seen Mt. Rushmore, so I figured we’d take the opportunity.

If you live along this route, let me know. Maybe we can time one of our rest stops with a quick visit.

  1. Wow! I’ve done the Wyoming-to-Fort Wayne portion of that cross-country drive, but you’re hardcore!

I’m in Chicago, so if you have the time for coffee or something, let me know!

  2. That looks like a pretty amazing trip! I’ve gone from Hartford, Arkansas (near Fort Smith) to Chicago in a day before… but then there’s not so many interesting places to stop on that route! 🙂

Looks like you’re swinging past near the Lynch’s. Don’t know exactly where they are, but it’s somewhere around Wisconsin… or Twin Cities… doesn’t look like you’re coming near London!

  3. It looks like you’ll be driving by where I grew up on your way from Portland to SLC, but not driving by where I live now. Still, feel free to wave. And if you pass by Exit 208 (Burley, Heyburn, Paul, Rupert) in Idaho and drive by a lake, that’s just across the street from where I grew up.

Have a wonderful trip, and enjoy Mount Rushmore! It’s very cool. (Another important part of the country for my family.)

  4. Jennifer: That looks like it might work out well for dinner. I’ll email you and see if we can work something out.

Chris: Normally I’d drive the route faster, but we can’t arrive in NYC until the 28th (or the night of the 27th) because that’s when we can actually move in. So, we’re taking a leisurely route. I think I saw the Decemberists at a live radio show, but I’m not sure. I’m daft that way sometimes…

Maggie: I think one of the routes we looked at did take us through where you are. Maybe when we move back to Portland.

  5. Those are awfully long days on the highway as you have plotted them. Even with two drivers, it could be quite demanding for your caravan and your menagerie. Slow down. See the sights. Smell the flowers.

  6. Drat. You’re sliding north around Harrisburg, and thus won’t be passing through Philadelphia so my wife and I cannot offer you a break from the road, a gourmet meal, and an hour or more of entertaining conversation.

We will revisit this once you’ve settled in in NYC.

  7. Oh, I’d love to meet, but we’re waaaay down here in Arizona. Unless you’d like a small detour–Ha!

You guys are going to have a great time, though.

  8. Momk: The funny thing is that these look like short days to us. We’ve both tended to drive for 15 hours when we’ve individually done our cross-country drives. Ten hour days and a driving partner seems like luxury!

Lawrence: Don’t worry. I’ll catch you in Philadelphia after we’re settled in, and I expect you to visit in NYC.

Worldly: Bwahahaha! But do let me know the next time you’re at a convention, because it would be fun to meet you.

  9. Agreed with MomK – having just done this with my dad (albeit in winter with shorter days and hazardous condidions west of Billings), these are long days. But the sooner you get here, the sooner the fun begins?

  10. Mary, you’ll be in Salt Lake! Are you already planning on meeting anyone there? If not, I’d love to drive up and take you and your husband to dinner. Eric Stone lives in Salt Lake too (for the time being). If you’ve already got plans, no worries, but if not, I’d love to say hello.

  11. Thanks for the reminder that you live close by!

We’re staying with Beth from Shimmer. At the moment, we’re trying to arrange a meetup, but it will be on the late side. I’ll keep you posted because I’d love to see you again. Eric too, of course.
