Sunday November 13 – 3:00 PM

What if I’m not coming to your town? If you still want a signed book, you can contact any of these stops and I’ll sign and personalize it for you. This is true for most authors and most bookstores, by the way. Handy.

The thing some people want to know is what happens at one of these book tour things. Here’s how it works. Each stop, I’ll show up in a replica of the Spirit Corps uniform.

Literature happens! Or, in other words, I read and answer questions. Naturally, on this tour, there’s some code-breaking. Do you know the passphrase? Often it’s easier to find than you’d think. Not that I’m hinting or anything…

Besides all that, you’ll be supporting an independent bookstore. Really, it’s is your patriotic duty. Although voting comes first… Now that you know what’s entailed, will I see you there? ‘Cause that would be awesome. Hope so.

  1. AUGH. Why did it have to be Sunday afternoon? No, seriously, why does the universe hate me? ANY other time, I would be there like a shot, but your Borderlands event is scheduled opposite an obligation I can’t get out of.

Depending on when you arrive or depart, though, I would love to try and catch a meal or something with you.

  2. What a wonderful signing in San Diego! Thank you so much. However, having now finished the book, I’m baffled by one of the ciphers. It’s a personal failing, but I couldn’t resist going through them, and now I’m in a bind.

(Potential spoilers below, halt if this will cause you grief!)

In chapter 5, Ginger’s letter includes a poem that decodes consonants/vowels to numbers as stage one to the book cipher, but it doesn’t seem to work out for me. Even using the rules as clearly stated, I’m having trouble getting the verse to line up with Ginger’s results.

The “rules” state that “vowels or end of a line indicated the end of number”. Applied that way, my results don’t match really at all. If I use vowels only, then I get matching results for the third “phrase”, but I seem to be missing something else in the decoding because the 1st and 2nd phrases go even worse. Either the rules are different there, or I don’t have enough consonant words in the 1st and 2nd phrases to match the number of digits given in the “results”.

I see three possibilities: I’m overthinking this and should just enjoy the wonderful story as a work of fiction. I’ve missed something in the rules or am otherwise making a mistake. Or, there’s genuinely an issue with the cipher as stated.

For reference, my copy seems to be a 2nd printing or batch copy, purchased 11/10/16 in San Diego.

    Thanks for the adventure!
