Bulgarian Women’s Choir

Today Rob and Wayne headed out to do the Golden Circle while I remained at home to do more prosaic things like laundry and writing. When they came back, we joined the gang and went to the Reykjavík Arts Festival’s presentation of the Bulgarian Women’s Choir. They are totally amazing in ways that are difficult to describe. I could talk about tight harmonies, and micro-tonal shadings but really the music was simply transportive. If you get a chance, definitely go see them.

  1. We heard the Bulgarian Women’s Choir on radio once. Their sound is indeed mesmerising! Prairie Home Companion aired last night here in the Islands.

We listened keenly, but did not hear a gaffaw from himself, Mr.K.

The “News from Lake Woebegone” was disappointing, so we shall vist them soon to see for ourselves what gives.

  2. we LOVE the bulgarian women’s choir, and saw them at Lincoln Center years ago. We have 2 albums of their “regular”music, plus a third, produced in Italy, of dance mixes(!) You’ll have to come back to Portland sometime so we can play it for you

Dance mixes! Good heavens, this I’ve got to hear–as if we didn’t have other perfectly good reasons to come back to Portland. Sometime.

Speaking of things I want to hear…I’m trying to find that “I will survive” square dance version. I don’t suppose your charming spouse remembers where he got it, does he?

  4. I love the Bulgarian Women’s Choir, but that part of the world has certainly produced some amazingly gorgeous music anyway.

It sounds like you’re having a fabulous time. Good for you!
