Audrey II is officially gone

I just got off the phone with Carlisle Shipping, the shipping company that lost my Audrey II puppets. They are going to initiate a claims process because they have finally admitted that they can not find the puppets. I though I’d lost hope on this a while ago, but I guess I hadn’t because I am very sad today.

At least they are voluntarily starting the claims process. I wonder what will happen when I talk to the actual claims department and explain that they lost a $10,000 set of puppets.

I guess I’ll be proactive and start assembling my paperwork to prove it.

  1. That’s awful.

Yeah, I built this puppet as one of my first big building gigs. I’m totally addicted to Little Shop of Horrors and have performed in seven different productions of it, several of them in this set of plants.

What really drives me nuts is knowing that they are probably still out there, sitting in some warehouse.

  2. My condolences.

My similar tale of loss is much smaller; the latex mask cast to my friend’s face for my college movie disappeared when I moved from LA. It was dear to me, though, because the artist was a good friend of mine, and the mask was a magical breathing-of-life into a pencil drawing I had given him as creative direction. There were pieces of so many people in it.

So I can only imagine but that it’s like losing a part of you. Oh, well. We wake up and invent new parts.

I am greatly warmed by your existence as a professional puppeteer. On several occasions I’ve said in my journal, and to friends, that as far as I’m concerned, Jim Henson is the most significant artist of the 20th century.

I’ve taken the rare step of adding you to my flist. I’m sure you’ll decide whether or not to reciprocate on your own, but I’d be pleased & honored to have you along.
