100 things meme

Matthew Jarpe, whose blog I quite enjoy, posted this meme today. He says:

In RADIO FREEFALL I used the word meme to describe a mind virus that forces a person to obsess over a single thought until he commits suicide. In retrospect I should have picked another word. Since I wrote the book that word has lost its mysterious obscurity and has been applied to gramatically incorrect cats, zombies, pirates, and lists like this one. Here, you take a list of 100 things that people do and highlight the ones you’ve done.

I was sort of surprised by how many I’d done.  I crossed out the ones I’ll never do, just as an exercise.

Hm, definitely didn’t travel that much… and am I the only person that noticed that number 11 is missing?

  2. “am I the only person that noticed that number 11 is missing?”

Ach, that’s my bad. I tried to turn it red and turned it gone instead.

    11. Bungee jumping.

And Mary…67? I’ve got to get out more. I just wish I’d taken the time to get to the top of the Eiffel tower. I walked under it.

  3. 50 to 53 for me. “Got flowers for no reason” was one that puzzled me: received or purchased them for someone else? Surprisingly high (to me; I’m more conscious of the places I’ve never been and probably will never get to) on the travel scale — I’ve been to Africa, Russia, Hawaii, Paris, Times Square, Niagara Falls, Old Faithful, the Grand Canyon. I didn’t count “held a lamb” but a baby goat on a Greek island ought to count, I should think. And what’s so great about a praying mantis? I’ve held ladybugs, caterpillars, birds, and spiders in my hands. Things I’d add as being worthy of mention: sang at Carnegie Hall, jogged with Steve Prefontaine, been asked for my autograph. Was particularly charmed by “saved a favorite child toy” — would love to know what that was for other folks.

  4. I was surprised that I had done 70 in this list (though I had only seen Niagara Falls from the air, so not sure if that counted).
