It’s sunny

Three people today have sent me emails saying that they hope I’m surviving the rain and storms. It’s sunny with blue skies today, and only scattered clouds. So, I’m fine. No problems to report here, no matter what the news agencies tell you.

Today’s list

Today I did laundry, washed the dishes, took out the garbage and the recycling, and mailed two manuscripts, a book and a package of licorice. I made appointments with my eye doctor for a check-up, with gutter repair services for estimates and an arborist to have our trees pruned. I also arranged to have our

Homecoming

I invited a group of friends over last night to let people know I was back in Portland. It was nice to see everyone, but it was a little strange to set up for the party. I went to the grocery store and could read everything without having to think about it. I’m also out

Voting

I left my absentee ballot in Iceland, so I biked down to the polling station today. I’ll tell you, I felt quite the Oregonian with the rain pelting me in the face as I whipped down 15th Avenue. The line of people with missing or damaged ballots stretched down the block, but moved pretty quickly.

Shades of Milk and Honey — The unedited original draft of Chapter one

Edited to add:The following chapter is the rough draft I wrote for NaNoWriMo in 2006 and is posted in unedited form. The finished book came out in 2010 from Tor, edited by Liz Gorinsky.  You may read the final, published version of the first chapter, if you’d like to compare the two.

Leaving WFC

I had a great time at WFC. Highlights include the Shimmer Pirate party, where I served a drink called, pirate, to 150 or so people, while Beth tattooed them. Pictures will follow, meanwhile, here’s the drink recipe. Shake in iced cocktail shaker & strain 3/4 oz light rum (2 cl, 3/16 gills) 3/4 oz Cognac
