LTUE (Life, The Universe, And Everything)
Feb 16 – Feb 18 all-day

About LTUE: Life, the Universe, & Everything: The Marion K. “Doc” Smith Symposium on Science Fiction and Fantasy originated at Brigham Young University and has grown and changed a lot over the last thirty years. LTUE is a three-day academic symposium on all aspects of science fiction and fantasy. Comprised of panels, presentations and papers on writing, art, literature, film, gaming and other facets of speculative fiction, LTUE is a place to learn all about life, the universe, and everything else you love.

The symposium is, most importantly, a gathering place for fans of our creative and innovative world to hang out and share their love of all things amazing, obscure, and even not-quite-real.

Substance abuse, racism, mental illness, physical abuse, corruption, and sex. As creators we are both blessed and cursed with the task of allowing others to see through our eyes. By sharing another perspective, we can change lives, but we can also inflame passions and fuel hate. How do we push the boundaries without crossing into forbidden territory?

The Rest of the Cast
You know your main character, but what about the rest of the cast? It’s all too easy to let secondary characters default to types we are familiar with, or to have characters who feel flat. In this workshop, Hugo Award-winning author Mary Robinette Kowal will use a combination of lecture, in class exercises, and worksheets to look at how to create secondary characters who enhance your story.
