Entanglement Report for 2/28/06

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

What a day for the camera to break.  Buster had wrapped his teather around a tree in the back yard in one direction about 6 or maybe even 7 times.  Later on I found him entangled with another tree near the first and he had somehow managed to come back under the teather so he could never untangle himself without actually thinking. (Remember, this is a dog we are talking about.  No matter how smart they are, they are still just a dog.)

The good news is that the camera is still under waranty. The bad news is that it takes up to 30 days to get it back.

Good Photo Op but no camera

I changed Busters routine this morning and fed him before our walk.  MISTAKE. Along the way he found a dead cedar tree to dig around.  There is probably really something under there because he wouldn’t come with me.  I came back to the house to get the leash and camera because I thought it would make a great picture to see the dirt flying and/or his head hidden in the hole he was digging. (there is no damage to report here because it is out in the woods and the tree is already dead) but the camera jammed and will neither close nor open fully.  I offered him a bisquit when he finally came to me (about 20 feet from the hole) but he ignored it and went back to the hole.  So I had to lead him back home on a leash and teather him.  He currently has the teather streached out toward where he was digging.

I guess if he ever gets loose I at least know where to look first.  But there will be no more pictures unless I decide to get the camera fixed.  It is a Sony and lasted 1 year and 4 months.

Good Day at Woodthrush Woods

No damage or entanglements to report.

I’m going to let Buster sleep in the utility room again tonight.  That eliminates any entanglements at night at least.

Entanglement Report for 2/26

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

There were no entanglements today that I knew of.  Due to the early morning entanglement yesterday, I let Buster sleep in the utility room last night. I put up this gate to make sure he didn’t make another journey upstairs.  This is a gate we used to keep Emily Elisabeth from falling down the basement stairs just a year ago.  I would have been able to sleep in except for Marilyn’s coughing at about the same time that Buster started yelping yesterday morning.

Hooray!  No damage to report.

Buster is really interested in something in the garden wall.  It is probably a chipmonk, but I didn’t leave him there long enough to cause any damage.

Final Damage Report for 2/25/06

Happily there is no significant damage to report.

It is only a simple half wrap around a nandina and he may have gotten out of it if I had left him alone, but he may have tied it up in a knot like he did the other day around the same bush.  The bad part of this is that it happened before 8:00 on Saturday morning and he was yelping sadly.  Marilyn is sick with a sore throat so I’m sleeping in the yellow bedroom (Robinette’s Roost) which is much closer to where this happened.

It is almost noon and there is no damage to report.

Today’s entanglement was a simple wrap around the mahonia bush, but it kept him from getting back to the porch.

At the end our walk this morning Buster just stepped on this rock and knocked it off of the wall. No tethers or leashes were involved. No digging either, just talent I guess. So I put some food in his bowl and went back to take this picture. Well, Buster quit eating so he could follow me. He really does like to be around people.

Going back to an earlier damage report where Buster dug up an iron rail. I decided to see what the rail was and this is it.

I don’t know exactly what it is, but it surely isn’t a rail from a civil war railroad.

Entanglement Report for 2/23/06

Remember how I said I moved the tie-out stake so Buster couldn’t reach the well?  Well, that put him in reach of the bushes and the Oak tree that he has been digging around whenever he gets a chance.  This is across the driveway.[photopress:Entanglemen_060223_1.JPG,thumb,pp_empty]

He looks fat dumb and happy here.  He has enough room left to still dig around the tree.

But look at the knot he put in the tether!  I don’t know how in the world he did this.  That is a real knot, not just your ordinary wrapping around and around.  No, this dog is gifted and talented.
